Word inserts new page with no break

Here is one that's got me baffled.

I have produced a template with VBA macros to produce a
report. I have added toolbar buttons for items such as
adding a table caption, inserting headings at various
levels, etc.

Sometimes - it is unpredictable, and I can't reproduce the
problem at will - when using one of the buttons to insert
a heading or a table caption, Word starts the next
paragraph on a new page. BUT there is no page break or
section break there.

Has anyone encountered this and can offer a solution ?
