Word Templates, Macros and SharePoint

I work for a large organisation and we are in the process of upgrading to
Windows XP and Office 2003. We have in excess of 1,000 Office templates,
mainly Word, used by different areas of the business so not everyone has
access to the same templates. Does anyone know if Word templates containing
macros can be run from SharePoint sites? Are there ANY alternatives to
storing templates on the users' hard drives?
