Greetings.
Problem with Word attachments in Entourage. Clicking on "open" in the
message or using Control > "open attachment" switches to Word, but
doesn't display the attchment - only the document currently open in
Word. Attachments are programmed (in "info") to open in Word, but
don't. any suggestions?
thanks.

What happens if you save the attachment, then switch to Word, choose
File > Open, and attempt to open the saved filed? m.

Thanks, Matt.
I can open the attachment (saved in Microsoft User data > Saved
attachments) from Word with File > Open. But I'm sure I should be able
to do it in Entourage without the extra step.

Yes you should. It works here. But certain things have to be set:

1. Does the attachment have the correct Word (Mac) icon? Like documents made
by Word X or 2004 on your hard disk? Or does it have a Word Windows icon, or
is blank?

2. Does it have the .doc extension? Or if not, was it sent from a Mac?

I'm not sure what distinguishes the Word (Mac) icon from a Windows
icon; however, the atttachment icons have an "a" in them and .doc
extension.

Then double-clicking the attachment should open the file.

Try

1. in a new Entourage identity. (Entourage /Switch identities/New. Set up
one of your email account and send yourself a .doc or wait for on to come
in.)

2. in a new OS user.

What happens in each case?

Double clicking the file is what I tried first. Doesn't work. I'll try
the others and report back.

I had the very same problem and have a workaround. The Word documents
were coming from both PC and Mac users so that's not the issue. They
use on the PC either Word 2000 or 2003 and on the Mac 2004.

I drag the email to a folder in My Computer folder list, then click on
that folder, open the email and double click on the Word document and
it always opens fine.

Must be some kind of conversion going on when you drag it from the
server onto your own hard drive.
