Hi,

I can guarantee this post is somewhere else but I can't
find it. I have lost the Workgroup log in box. I just
bult a new system, Windows XP but Access 97 picked the
usual MDW file but no login was ever offered.
Created a new MDW file same response.

How can I get it back? I think I heard it was a bug?

Hi Keith,

There might be a bug in Access security but I'm guessing that your problem
might have been caused by something else. Access user level security is
complex and as such requires thorough understanding. Even a missed small
step can render security ineffective. It's then easy to think that there
must be a bug.

Were you able to get into your database? If not, what's the error message?

Access by default (upon installation) uses System.mdw as the workgroup file.
The default login user is Admin with all rights and privileges and no
password. So if you install a fresh copy of Access and find yourself in an
access database without logging in, this means you've logged in as admin
with no password. This also means the database you've gone into has not been
properly secured. You may think it is secured, but it's not properly
secured.

I suggest picking up the Access Security FAQ and going through it thoroughly
(i.e. two or three times) on a copy of your database.
