working with captions and cross referencing to them in word 2003

Hello
I am working in Word 2003. After inserting graphics, I
attach captions to them. I then refer to these captions
throughout the text by creating cross references and
hyperlinks to them. However, if I move any of the
captions, then what was the cross reference
reads: 'Error! Reference source not found.' Is there any
way to keep the cross reference 'relative' to the
position of the caption? For example, in Excel, if you
refer to a cell in a cell equation, but then move the
cell to which the second cell refers, the second cell
updates to the new position of the first cell. I can't
believe that Microsoft wouldn't have thought of this. I
can only think I haven't got it right. If I choose 'edit
cell' from 'right-click' an option exists: 'Relative
position of paragraph'. Is this it?
Thanks to you all
Steve
