I am trying to calculate a running total for Inventory of stock i
column G. By adding column G with column I. The format I have tried i
not working =SUM(G3+I3) or =(G3+I3). Is this possible to do?

Thank you for your help,
Marit

i take you are trying to look like this
A b c
1 1 2
2 1 2
3 4 3
4 4 5
5 total 10 12

if this is the case the format to work out the total of
column b is =sum(b1:b4) and sum of column c is =sum(c1:c4)

you can paste this formal any where on this sheet and it
will have be =sum(b1:b4)

hope this help let me know

thanks

Hi Marita

both should have worked although it is best to write the SUM one as
=SUM(G3,I3), and you don't really need the brackets in the second one - the
fact neither of them did makes me think that the numbers in either column G
or column I aren't actually numbers.

In a cell somewhere type =ISNUMBER(G3), if TRUE is returned then its a
number, repeat for I3. If one of them comes back "FALSE", the click on an
unused cell, choose copy, select the column that returned the FALSE and
choose edit / paste special / add and try the formulas again.

Let us know how you go

Cheers
