I agree... On the other had, except in the Contact information,
Entourage doesn't really make a lot of use of these photos. I wish it
used them as Mail does displaying them next to the headers in each
e-mails.

Also, iChat uses the same image that Address Book uses, so it is a generally
useful thing to have. It seems an odd omission from the things being synced!
(Failure to sync non-MSN instant messaging addresses is also annoying.)

Is there a list anywhere which describes what Entourage fields are synced to
what Address Book fields?

Cheers,

There is not a list, but a these two articles might be helpful:

BASICS OF SPOTLIGHT
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq_topic/spotlight_basics.html>

BASICS OF HOW SYNC SERVICES WORKS
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq_topic/sync_services_basics.html>

Those don't really answer my question.

So, there's a plist describing what Entourage is syncing (I think) at

/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/Microsoft Sync
Services.app/Contents/Resources/ClientDescription.plist

There's another plist describing what Address Book et al are syncing at

/System/Library/SyncServices/Schemas/Contacts.syncschema/Contents/Resources/
Schema.plist

Apple's schema has an "image", Entourage's doesn't...

None of this explains what Entourage associates with each field. I guess
mostly they're obvious, but it would still be nice to see an actual list.

It is probably better to look at Apple's docs on the matter:

<http://developer.apple.com/documentation/AppleApplications/Reference/SyncSe
rvicesSchemaRef/Articles/Contacts.html>

Chris,

It's a little over my head but are you saying the
..../Resources/ClientDescription.plist could be edited so that the data you
wanted would sync as well, in this case the image?

I really don't think so... The .plist lists what's set to be synched
amongst what is possible to be synched. Entourage simply does not sync
the pictures,

I think you're right. The plists really only tell us where Entourage is
syncing stuff (but not which fields they are in Entourage) and editing the
plist would probably break Entourage horribly.

Cheers,
