XML and the future of VBA

E

Ed

Somebody just scared the bejeebers out of me saying that Microsoft is going
to ditch VBA in favor of XML. Is it true? Are there going to be automatic
converters? Can VBA be readily converted to XML. Are there existing
publications discussing this? Is this all a hoax?

Thanks.

Did they say when Microsoft are going to ditch it?

Fellow MVP, Shauna Kelly has pulled together some very useful links to
information on Office 12 at:

It's a hoax!

VBA is a programming language. XML is a document markup language. They do
different things and serve differennt purposes and are, in now way,
inetrchangeable.

Of course, the future of VBA is often discussed and is the subject of much
speculation but AFAIK there has been no definitive statement from Microsoft.

Not quite correct. There have been public statements from Microsoft to the
effect that VBA will at least be in Office 12 and the next version after.

G'day "Ed" <[email protected]>,

Yes and no. Go learn XML (MS's way) anyway. Write DLLs from any
source, get them signed, link freely from XML.
