LOST in Office

While trying to convert a (WordPerfect) file to MS Word 2000, I was told that
I need to download the "word file conversion utility". As I was installing
the utility, I was then told that I first nedded to first install "sp1 & sp2
for word 2000". after this installation, I then tried to continue the install
of the word file conversion utility, at which time I was then told I need to
put the CD, "XP Office Professional" to continue. Of course I don't have XP
Pro, I have the OEM for Word 2000. I am sure that I am not the only one this
has happen to. HELP ...... anf thank you. ♫¿♫

Hi Lost,

Check in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control
panel to see if there is a Microsoft Office XP or
'2002' series Microsoft app listed as installed.
That would be the 'normal' cause for that request.

Hi Lost,

In your first posting you mentioned that you didn't
have MS Office XP Professional (2002 series apps), but
rather MS Word 2000 as either a standalone or it could
be part of MS Works Suite.

The basic converter for Wordperfect to Word
(WordPerfect can read Word documents so MS doesn't
have a WordPerfect v6 and up 'export'/save as converter)would be
an optional install in the listing for Office XP or
Word 2000 in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control
panel.

If you're getting requests for the CD then the installer
is detecting either a damaged or missing installed file.
Can you do a repair/reinstall on the program?

I am sorry if I didn't make myself clear.
1. I have MS office 2000 installed OEM and the CD's
2. Word 2000 standard file conversion utility, will not convert Word Perfect
documents.
3. when attempting a file conversion Word 2000, told me to download a ad-on
file conversion utility
4.while installing the Word 2000 file conversion utility, word telld me I
first need to install sp1 & sp2 for Word 2000
5. After the sp1&sp2 updates to Word 2000, and a attemp to install the File
Conversion Utility
6. I am now told that I need to have the XP Office Professional CD to
continue set-up
7. I do not have said disk, I have my original OEM Office 2000 cd's
8. Therefore I cannot install the ad-on File conversion Utility, Bob my

Surely, the OEM Office discs that you have are Office Professional? why
can't you use one of them?

Mike
I have went back and read my previous post, and it is clear that I DO NOT
have the XP Office Professional discs, but rather a updated version of MS
Offfice 2000.

Please check the info I have given, before another answer as this. "Surely,
the OEM Office discs that you have are Office Professional? why

From your post..

"I am sorry if I didn't make myself clear.
1. I have MS office 2000 installed OEM and the CD's"

CD's presumably for OEM Office 2000.. which should work.. if the CD's are of
the system recovery type supplied by vendors, then contact the vendor.. they
are responsible for OEM installations as supplied from the factory..
