thanks roady,
the version is outlook 2002 (10.6515.6626) sp3.
i went to tools>e-mail accounts>...
there i have 4 options, where should i go from there?

Choose View or change existing e-mail accounts and double check that only
the accounts you want are configured. Do you see a separate folder list on
the same level as Outlook Today as well? In that case right-click that
separate list and choose Close
