Years Subtotal

I am trying to subtotal sales figures by years, but they
are not in any particular order.

Column R is a list of years (1981, 1982, etc). Column A
is the year of the sale in random order (1985, 1996,
etc.). Column B is the dollar amount. I tried to set up
column S to subtotal with the following formula:

=sumproduct((A1:A100)=R1,b1:b100)

I only get $0 as a result. What is wrong with the above
formula?

=sumproduct(--(A1:A100=R1),b1:b100)

instead of a formula, consider a Pivot table - your situation is
designed for them.
