MS has already announced that the default file formats for
the next version of MS Office are to be in XML and that
both Office XP and 2003 will be updated to also be able to
use that format.

GMAFB - this "OASIS" is a construct of proprietary companies seeking to set
a "standard" - even though they are not a Standards Body, and shove it down
Microsoft's throat.

XML and .pdf are both open, but MA decided that it needed "keys to the
kingdom" to be able to vet Microsoft's XML offering. Word is still out on
the Microsoft Office 12 "Save As" .pdf.
