hello, i need a huge help.

am not a computer expert, but i use a mac, and have used it for a while now. i recently had a problem with a software, and i reinstalled Leopard, and thus microsoft office 2008 (for mac). i was using 'time machine' so i was confident i would be able to retrieve my emails after a fresh install. but now it is giving me "your office database is damage" message, and when i tried to build it repair it fix it, nothing works. i have tried to use an earlier backup (from time machine) it is still the same problem. i need those emails (about 6GB). anyone has any idea? i don't want to give up, and i want to do anything to get my emails back. thanks.

It's advised not to let Time Machine backup your Entourage database. If the
database is copied while being used, the backup could be corrupt. You can
set the Time Machine to exclude the Microsoft User Data folder and create an
iCal event to copy it over at night while not in use so you get one backup
daily in Time Machine.

Alternative method to use Entourage and Time Machine (does a once a day or
whatever time period you select)

Entourage and Time Machine (creates chronological backup of Identity can be
used by both Tiger and Leopard)

Can you open any of the Identities copied to Time Machine?

No Diane, that is what is killing me. I won't backup my entourage using time machine again, but does it mean the one i have is just dead and gone? or may be i can try some of the other backups to see if they were backed up when entourage wasn't on.

thanks, looking forward to hear from you.

If you can't open it, then most likely it's gone. However, some users have
recovered Identities from Time Machine that worked.

It's also possible that the database can be rebuilt on a very large hd. See
this article:

Rebuilding a damaged database that exceeded size limit

xceeded_size_limit.html>

In case the above link does not work:

I've not tried this with and Entourage 2008 database, but have been very
successful in recovering Entourage X Identities.

If you still have a backup of your previous Entourage Identity from 2004 or
X, you could at least recover that. If you don't have a big drive, you might
consider buying one. If you burn your Identity to a DVD, you could send it
to me to try. I charge a min of $35 to try rebuilding.

You never mentioned what type of Accounts you have. Are any IMAP or
Exchange?

thanks diane for the offer,

tried all the recent timemachine backups to try to get one database that was hopefully not backed up when entourage was open. luckily one of them worked and i was able to get my data. thanks a lot for the tip, and keep on doing the good work that you are doing - helping desperate fellows like me. thanks a million.

Glad you found a working Identity. Take the time to start a good backup
strategy. There are many ways to backup. Find one that suits you.
