Access Error When Installoing Office 2000 SR-1

J

JKB

Every time I execute (e-mail address removed) (Microsoft's update for
Office 2000), the process hangs with:

"Error 1309. Error reading from file: c:\Program
Files\Microsoft
Office\ART\PFiles\MSOffice\Office\ACCESS.PIP. Verify
that the file exists and that you can access it."

This appears in a window labeled "Microsoft Access 2000
SR-1 Runtime".

Can't find anything in Support to help me. Any help
available?

Hi,

Appears you have the issue where you have Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime
installed on your computer and you are trying to apply Office 2000 SR-1
patch.

- Via Add/Remove programs uninstall Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime
- Retry the install of the Office 2000 SR-1 patch

I hope this helps! If you have additional questions on this topic, please
respond back to this posting.

If you're going to go that far, Eric, why not finish the job and explain the
rest of the steps necessary to get the rest of Office2000 patched up, in this
case the Access Runtime that also needs to be patched, and the expected time
for a client to do it all, including those who are and are not IT-literate?

I hope this helps
Chris

Sure.

- First make sure you have the ability to reinstall Microsoft Access
Runtime. Either from your developer who originally installed it or from
the Microsoft Office Developer Edition (e.g., create a new runtime package
including Microsoft Access Runtime)

- Via Add/Remove Programs uninstall Access Runtime

- Reboot machine (not necessary)

- Install Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1
How to obtain and install the Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a Update
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=245025

- Install Office 2000 Service Pack 3
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=326585

- Reinstall Microsoft Access Runtime

- Apply Access 2000 Runtime Security Patch: September 3, 2003

Gosh. All that!

Have you actually ever had any runtime customers, Eric?

All very well for us IT-literates, but THEY CANT DO IT. (combine patches which
MS should have combined when they came out, for new installs, rather than
saying install this then this then that patch).

For example, I purchased O-XP Dev just as it went obsolete. And I received in
the package...the original SP-0!!! Is that cosher? And MS wanted to charge me
for wanted the upgrades by CD...

For another example, there was no MS-provided way to incorporate XP SP-1 into
runtime. Apart from a site-download after the fact. Customers don't expect to
have to apply patches immediately on purchasing new software. So, because MS
didn't do it, I posted myself to the developer newsgroups how to do it.
(incorporate a patch from the outset rather than my poor customers spending
hours afterwards)

Do you have any comments?
Ta
Chris
