Application Event Log Errors Driving Me Crazy!!!

B

Brandon@KM

I've just completed a successful upgrade of my Production Project Server 2003
environment to SP2a, or at least I thought I have...

I performed the upgrade on Wed. (1/30) and on Sat. (2/2), which consequently
is our I.T. routine maintenance window, I started seeing the following (3)
errors in the Application Event Log on the server box in 30 minute intervals:

---------------------------------------------
Component: PjSvrNPE
File: C:\Office\devsp\project\WebClient\source\server\pjnpe\CPjNPE.cpp
Line: 32
Error Number: 0x80010105
Description:
Assert Detected. The error code was also
included.

Component: PjSvrNPE
File: C:\Office\devsp\project\WebClient\source\server\pjnpe\CPjSvrNPE.cpp
Line: 48
Error Number: 0x80010105
Description:
Assert Detected. The error code was also
included.

File: C:\Office\devsp\project\WebClient\source\utility\baserootformat.cpp
Line: 22
Error Number: 0x80070057
Description:
Assert Detected. The error code was also
included.

-----------------------------------------

Again, it's the same 3 errors every 30 minutes. I have investigated using
all of my other resources but can find no conclusive evidence as to what's
causing this...

Did something happen during the I.T. maintenace window (like a service pack
or hot fix) that's causing the errors???

Is it a corrupt project plan on the server???

Is there something that was missed during the upgrade to SP2a???

Will upgrading to SP3 take care of it???

Any point in the right direction will be greatly appreciated...

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

Brandon,

Did you apply the Service Pack to SQL and WSS as well as Project Server ?

Brandon@KM

Thanks for the reply Paul... I applied the SQL file of the service pack
upgrade 1st (as instructed by Microsoft), but bypassed the WSS file (the 3rd
step) since the instructions said it wasn't neccessary if you already did it
in the SP1 installation.

After reading your response, I went ahead and applied the WSS file
successfully, but to no avail. The errors are still showing up (as listed
below) every 30 minutes.

Should I repeat step 1 of the service pack install (that is, re-apply the
SQL file to the database)??? Is it ok to do this AFTER the rest of the
service pack is installed???

Thanks for your help!!!

There's certainly no deterimental effects to re-applying the SP. Are you
running with the latest SP's for SQL and WSS (not Project modules) ?

Hi Paul,

We re-ran both the SQL and WSS files for the SP2a upgrade successfully, but
the errors did not go away... Still the same errors every 30 minutes... In
answer to your last question, we are running SQL at SP3a and WSS at version
6.0.2.6568...

Any other suggestions???

THANKS for your continuing help!!!

HI Brandon,

I've had a dig around the site/blogs which I use for support and can't find
anything which would suggest a fix or cause. I'd be inclined to raise a
support call with MSFT.

Hi Paul,

Well, I spoke too soon... After re-applying the SQL and WSS files, I went
directly back to the event log and saw that the errors were continuing...
BUT, as I began to give up hope, I decided to reboot the server box and POOF,
the errors disappeared!!!

So, all is good again in Project Server Land... ;-)

If that wouldn't have worked, I would've proceeded to make a support call to
Microsoft (as you ultimately suggested)...

THANKS AGAIN for you EXCELLENT help!!!

Take Care,

Brandon@KM
