Best practices wrt skills in Ent Outline Codes..

Good day, all..

I'm interested in knowing what the recommended approach, or best practices
are with respect to configuring Ent. Outline Codes (resources) based on
skill. In our particular environment, we don't have a hierarchy of skills
(skill-level doesn't apply in our org), but rather a flat structure something
like this:
-ProjMgr
-PortMgr
-InfoDev
-VbsDev
-PerlDev
-QC
-HtmlDev

What is the recommended way to configure outline codes if I need to indicate
a resource has MORE than one of these skills? For example, we have a variety
of developers, each with different skillsets - some have VBScript + Perl,
while others are just VBScript + HTML, and we need this information in our
reporting when we hire new individuals.

Any tips/advice?

Thanks,

In a situation like yours, you could simply build a single-level outline
code with a list of the available skills. The fact that you don't track
skill levels will make your life a lot easier. Because you need multi-value
(MV) functionality, you must create the Skills code in enterprsie Resource
outline code 20-29, which are the only outline codes that offer the MV
capabilties. If you want to use the outline code for skill matching, be
sure to select the "Use this code for matching generic resources" option.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale, this is exactly what I was looking for. One note, however...
when I look at the Resource Information (by double-clicking on a resource),
Custom Fields tab, I notice TWO entries for Outline Code 20, differing only
in that one has "MV" appended to the name I gave. Is this cause for concern,
or is this the way it presents itself in the list? I want to make sure that
the PMs are only presented with one list..

Thanks,

This is the default behavior of the software when using MV resource fields.
You must make this a training and performance issue with your team members.
There is no way to show only one field if a field is an MV field. Hope this
helps.
