Can't view equations created in Word 2007 for Windows

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel I've searched the forums on this topic and it seems as though this problem was fixed with update 12.0.1. I just installed Office 2008 today (had been using 2004) and installed the updates that were recommended, the latest being 12.2.3. However, I still get the message, "This file contains Word 2007 for Windows equations" when attempting to open a file created on a PC with equations in it. Still happens after restarting the Mac.

I'm on a MacBook Pro, 10.5.8, 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.

Seems like a step backward, as Word 2004 at least inserts image versions of the Word 2007 equations.

Update:
I created a .docx with an equation in Word 2008 and it caused a conversion error when opening in Windows Word 2007.

Hi Jason:

Ugly, isn't it :)

The "image" of the equation that gets inserted is inserted by the "creating"
application, not the receiving application.

It's up to Word 2007 to place a picture of the equation in there. It
doesn't do that.

If you created equations in Word 2008, you could display and edit them in
Word 2007. You can't go the other way.

We need to remember that Word 2007 is two or three levels AHEAD of Word
2008, so many of the newer features of Word 2007 will not operate in 2008.

You can expect a quantum-leap improvement in Word 2010 for the Mac when it
comes out in December.

Cheers

Hey John,

it just seems stupid that word 2008 (the number of the year after 2007) is outdated compared to word 2007..

Isn't there any tool to convert these equations? Just UNTIL the word 2010 arrives?

Kind Regards,

Jens Lindahl
