Compatibility Pack does not work for IE ?

T

TIA

Environment: Windows Server 2003, SP2; IE 6, SP2; MS Office 2003 and
'Compatibility Pack for the 2007 Office'

I'm using Internet Explorer 6, SP2 to access documents (created with MS
Office 2003) on a temporary share all right.

However, there is a problem when I try to access MS Office 2007 documents on
the same share (i.e. IE does not recognize them; thinks it is a zip file ...).

NOTE: I did install the 'Compatibility Pack for the 2007 Office' and this
works fine with WINDOWS EXPLORER (i.e. Windows Explorer can read the MS
Office 2007 documents all right).

QUESTION: How to get the IE 6, SP2 (on WIndows Server 2003, with MS Office
2003) to read the MS Office 2007 documents (just like the Windows Explorer) ?

TIA

Windows Explorer won't "read" ANY Office documents by itself - how are
you "reading" them in Windows Explorer?

When I use

file://share and click on the listed Office2007.docx it opens the
file all right.

This makes sense , since I installed the 'Office 2007 Compatibility Pack'.

However,when I use

http://share and click on the listed Office2007.docx, it treats is as A
ZIP file !?

Obviously, the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack does not help here ?

Any ideas ?

TIA

What if you right-click on the "share" and choose "open With"? Does that
allow you to choose the app to open it with?

Thanks for the pointer.

When I right click on the document (using http://share/), I don't get the
"open with ..." . I only get "open" and "Open in a new window".

The web server's mime type table needs to be updated to include the new Office 2007 file
extensions:

PowerPoint 2007 files don't download correctly from a Web Server, open as zip files

(PPT-specific answer, but the same info would apply to DOCX, XLSX etc files)
