Custom Animation

I opened a PowerPoint 2003 presentation I have used many times. On one slide
the custom animations did not work. The first animation element does "start
with previous"; the next element starts "after previous"; but the next
element with the "start after previous" selection does nothing. I have
checked to make sure the Slide Show>Use animation timings when present button
is checked. I then opened the same presentation in PowerPoint 2007 and it
behaved the same way. I am thinking there is some setting with this
particular file that needs to be changed. Any ideas?
