Customized Tracking Bars?

Can I make Gantt view tracking bars track a custom field? I'd like to change
the way baseline works to better suit our company. What I'd like to do is
create two seperate baselines; one that shows the original estimated
durration, and one that shows the estimated work hours. The projects we have
tend to be put on hold for weeks or months at a time before starting back up.
Our baselines usually match the estimated work pretty closely, that is, the
amount of days/hours the project has been worked on before it gets competed.
But from the start date to the actual finish date, the baselines are months
off. I'd like to make a custom tracking bar that will let me split it like
with the standard tracking bars that track progress. That way it is easier to
show that our baseline for the amount of days worked is close to our estimate.

To make a bar splitable, you need timescaled information about it. Only tasks
and baselines have this. So if you can't use your baseline, then you have
nothing left.
You could mock one up with a number of barstyles and custom dates (one
barstyle for each set of dates) but that would be rather clunky. Could be
done though...
