Comparing multiple baselines against current schedule

Our office would like to use the Multiple Baselines to save baselines at
significant phases of our projects, label them with the Phase names, and
compare each against the current schedule using both the Tracking Gantt and
the Slipping Task views to show the Variances of each. It is our
understanding that MS Project only compares the current schedule against the
Baseline to calculate and display the Variances and is not able to switch and
calculate Variances against Baselines 1 thru 10.

Is there a work-around or our we the only ones wanting such a feature?
Thanks.

Hello,

You can certainly use custom fields (Number, and Text fields for
example) to calculate your own variances. Take a look at Project
help for information on the Project Functions, particularly
ProjDateDiff to calculate the differences between dates. The
Multiple baselines Gantt view also is a good example of displaying
multiple baselines. Take a look at Format > Bar Styles to see how
the additional bars are created for display.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Althouh you will not be able to calculate all variance simultaneously, MS
Project does allow you to specify which baseline to use for Earned Value
calculations (which includes variances).

You may set the baseline for calculation purposes under
Tools/Options/caluclation (tab). Select Earned Value and then choose the
baseline of your choice (Baseline, Baseline1...10). Project will use the
selected baseline again the current schedule to make its calculations.
