Database issues/corrupt moving from Trial to Retail version

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: pop Hi,

I switched to Mac recently and started using Office 2008 Trial version and then purchased the retail version. After uninstalling the trail version and installing the retail version, I have been unable to open the Entourage database from the Trial version. It has a lot of emails as I moved over from Outlook and did the conversion to Entourage.

After installing the Retail copy, it created a new identity. When I try to open the previous identity, it says it is corrupt and to repair. However, the Database utility only lists the new identity as an option for repair not the original.

I tried to see if I could import however import is only available from an archive (.rge) or from an earlier version of Entourage.

I've tried creating a new identity and also moving the Microsoft User Data folder so it creates a new identity itself and also repaired permissions. as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969291

Is there anyway I can extract the emails from this database? or navigate to and force a repair on a database that the utility doesn't automatically find?

I have tried importing into Mail, but it needs to open the Entourage database so back to square one.

In outlook you could open any and any number or data files (.pst) from any or user in any outlook client.

Thanks for any help in advance....I really need a solution.

There should be no problems with a database created with the trial then
opened with the retail version.

Is this the same version Office 2008 Trial and Office 2008 retail? Did you
use v13 on one and v12 on the other?

What version is this file?

"/Applications/Microsoft Office
2008/Office/MicrosoftComponentPlugin.framework"

FWIW, version 13 cannot see a version 12 Identity. These must be imported
first.

The MicrosoftComponentPlugin.framework v is 12.2.3, but do not know how to check whether the trial version was v13 or v12. I was using was any different. I think it was the same though as there was a 12.2.3 update which installed while I was using the trial version a couple weeks ago.

I downloaded the trial version from mactopia and just purchased Office:Mac 2008 Business Edition as it is the only version available in Australia (other than Student version) and would assume they are both the same version.

Is there a plist I can edit so my previous database shows up in the database utility?

Are there other things I can try to get my old database back online? Maybe a third party utility or program?

Thanks again

Is there a plist I can edit so my previous database shows up in the database
utility?

AFAIK, there is no way to tell. Bad move on Microsoft¹s part.

Let¹s try this....

1. In the Finder, select your Office 2008 folder in Applications. Control
click (right-click) and select to ³Compress². This will make a zipped copy.
2. Now download the 13.0.3 installer and upgrade.

Does the upgraded version see your old Identity? If no, then you can delete
the upgraded Office folder in Applications and unzip the 12.2.3 version. If
yes, then the database was created in v13.

BTW, what size is the database?

That worked....Thank you so much. I didnt realise that the web services update was v13.

After I performed the update, Entourage opened in my previous identity by default with all my emails etc.

My database is 4.33GB. When I did the Outlook conversion to RGE, the .rge was only 1.49GB.

After import into Entourage, it grew substantially.

Thanks again...you're a legend!!

My database is 4.33GB. When I did the Outlook conversion to RGE, the .rge was
only 1.49GB.

If you imported a .rge file into Entourage and then connected to an Exchange
or IMAP account, that would give you duplicates.

Do you see a folder called xxx.rge? If yes, toggle it open and see if you
see messages there that are also under folders "On My Computer".
