editing pictures in slides

Kitamba

I have PowerPoint 2000.

I have received a pps file where most of the pictures in the slides are not
selectable to edit - text boxes in the same slide can be edited ok.

Whenever I left-click to select the background picture for editing all that
happens is that the font in the tool bar changes.

Is there any way I can make them editable?

cheers

You can check the slide master and see if they were added that way. View |
Master | Slide Master.

But, especially if the file has different pictures on each slide background,
they were probably added via Format | Background | Fill Effects | Picture. If
that's the case, then there's no easy way to edit them.

You can make a copy of the presentation, delete the textboxes on all the
slides, then use File | Save As and choose an image type from the "save as
type" dropdown at the bottom of the Save As dialog box. That will save each
slide as an image that you can edit and reinsert into the original
presentation.

Thanks Echo, but if I cannot edit them directly I think I shall 'save as web
page' and edit the individual picture files then reinsert as you suggest.

You want to just save as JPG or PNG or something -- no need to do the whole
Save as Webpage thing. Choose File | Save As, then select one of the image
types in the "save as type" dropdown at the bottom of the dialog box.

Oh, you know -- save as webpage is actually a better idea. (So ignore my
post about saving as JPG or PNG and skipping webpage.) That way you'll be
able to edit the images in the web files folder, save them, and just open
the presentation again by opening the HTML file from within PowerPoint.
(Then File | Save As and save as a PPT file with a new name so you'll still
have the original if you need it.)

Duh! Why didn't I think of that?! I'm glad you did! :)
