Email notifications not working

David

Good afternnon,

I am running Project 2003 SP3 on a windows 2003 server. Not running
sharepoint. I have set my SMTP server to be my exchange server. Email
notifications are not going out. Instead I get several error messages in the
event viewer whenever project attempts to send out an email. In my research
a large number of post have this same error. No one has posted a solution.
I verifed that all my resources have valid email addresses. I verifed that I
can talk to the exchange server from the project server.

Please advise,

Here are the errors:

Hi David,

I have never had any issues with this component of Project Server - on the
contrary, it seems to be the only one that always works... :p

Anyway - when you say that you verified that you can talk to the exchange
server from your project server, did you do this with a telnet session? MS
has a very thorough KB on the subject at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/153119

What sometimes might happen is that your exhange is configured to only relay
email from specific ip addresses, or for specific domains...

Thanks,
Nico

Hi Nico,

Thank you for the reply. I did use Telnet and verified that email works.
In addition, this machine has several other websites on it that regularly
talk to our exchange server. None the less I went into exchange and verified
taht the machine could send email to it.

The wierd thing is that nothing changed. No updates or anything. The email
notification just stopped working. I then updated to SP3 and hoped taht
would fix it. It did not.

If you notice the erros reference c:\office\dev\... this path does not
exist. Not sure why the error messages are pointing to this path.

Thanks for your input,

David

David:

At a command prompt, try:

regsvr32 "\WINDOWS\System32\CDOSYS.dll"

No guarantee on this, keep in mind that I'm guessing and my expertise is
Project Server not Windows Server. You might also try asking about these
errors in Windows Server newsgroups.

I registered it again and still get the same results. Error messages in
event viewer and no email notification.

Thank you for your support.

The server does not have Outlook Express installed. I did re-install Outlook
2003. The problem still exist. This is really becoming an issue.

David

David, Did you ever get this resolved? I am having the same issue and can not
figure it out and ran through all the same checks. It was working at one
point, the company changed exchange servers and when we entered the new
address into the Admin page its not working. The exchange server has
permissions to the Project Server and other applications are using the new
exchange server with no problems.

Never mind. I resolved my problem. It was the Virus Protection that was
interrupting it.
