Empty folders after import

Well I seriously do not know what the problem is here, and I will also be the first to acknowledge that I am VERY new in the Mac world and what seemed simple in Windows appears to be a different ball game in AppleWorld...

I had Entourage 2008 with years and years of emails in it. I had to format my PC so I made a backup of my items to a .RGE file, and saved the file on a external hard drive. So I re-installed Entourage and did all of the updates. Then I clicked on FILE > IMPORT > IMPORT FROM ENTOURAGE > IMPORT RGE FILE from which I had to browse for the file, and got it to import.

After a second it said importing finished and it merely imported a single contact (which appears to be me) and a new folder with the RGE filename. This folder also contained all of my folder names which was used in my previous installation of Entourage, but there is NO mail items in it. I know that the mail items is in the .rge file because the file is 2.4gb so I cannot imagine it only containing a single contact.

I really hope someone can assist me here, I really really really do! The only other thing of value is that I was running Snow Leapard when I did the backup, and I am only running Leapard now, but I really cannot imagine that being the problem.

Thank you in advance.

I may have been able to sort this one out for anyone else who has had this horrible nightmare.

It turns out the RGE file is nothing more than a package file in Mac OS, so here is a simple work around for those of you who may experience this:

Hope this helps!!

After a second it said importing finished and it merely imported a single

folder also contained all of my folder names which was used in my previous
installation of Entourage, but there is NO mail items in it. I know that the
mail items is in the .rge file because the file is 2.4gb so I cannot imagine
it only containing a single contact.

Hmmm, it certainly sounds like the .rge file contains info.

When Entourage imports, all the messages are put as subfolders under the
main.rge folder. Toggle it open then you can move or drag the folders.

However, the contacts all go where they are supposed to go without having to
move anything.

Did you keep the old Main Identity folder with your database file inside?
(This is the best way to restore your data if you ever do this in the
future.) If you have it, what size is the database?

Are you sure you checked all items to export as .rge?

I'm not sure this will make any difference, but drag the .rge file from the
external and put it on the desktop to import. Use Switch Identity in
Entourage and create another Identity to test this out.
I really hope someone can assist me here, I really really really do! The only
other thing of value is that I was running Snow Leapard when I did the backup,
and I am only running Leapard now, but I really cannot imagine that being the
problem.

The OS should not make a difference. Running a different version of
Entourage can. Check this file and tell us what version it is.

/Applications/Microsoft Office2008/Office/MicrosoftComponentPlugin.framework

If you use Column View in the Finder, select the file and you'll see the
info in the next column.

Thank you for your reply:

1) No, I only exported all the items as a single RGE file and that was the only one I selected, I never knew there was more files.
The other solutions also did not help.

Anyways, I did manage to get my mail back *sigh* so I am happy again :)
