Entering Actuals from My Tasks

Project Server 2007 Question. A client is going to use the My Tasks
page for resources entering Actuals against assignments. They are
wanting to only work with Project Tasks and avoid the appearance of a
timesheet system. However, we know that this will take away some
features the My Timesheet page provides and are trying to understand
what will be lost if the My Timesheet is not used. I have a
workaround for resources to submit Planned Admin Time. Is there a way
to "lock down" time periods from any updates in My Tasks? The "Close
Tasks for Updates" closes the task, but what if a task spans an
accounting period and the the task needs to remain open but would need
to prevent any updates to dates that have been processed for billing?

Hi BK,

you hit the nail directly on the head so to speak. My task does not have
periods as timesheets have. If you need to close periods for accounting
pupose, you will not get past the timesheet. Having said this, the
funcitonality as it is implemented in Project Server 2007 is combersome to
use and you may need to look into enhancing this function or even utilising
some 3rd party products ( QuantumPM has a great solution).

Either way, if you only want to use the My task functioanlity you will not
be able to use the periods. Other obious functionalities would be:
- timesheet approval
- adminitrative time
that you loose, not utilising Timesheets.
I hope that helps

One follow-up. One remanant of the Timesheet functionality is the
"Import Timesheet" link on the Grid Toolbar of the My Tasks page.
Other than modifying the HTML, is there a configurable way to grey out
or remove that link?

Disable the timesheet options within the Server Settings...

The My Timesheet page has been set to hidden, the PWA home page has
modifed to remove the Timesheet Reminders. Are there additional
timesheet options that need to be disabled?
