Envelope icon does NOT disappear after mail is opened or read

It's funny how I see so many people wanting to get rid of this envelope in
the systray...I actually LIKE it. At quick glance, I can see if there are
unread messages in Outlook. My problem is, I get new email, and the envelope
appears. I either click the email once to read it in the preview pane
(preferred choice) OR I can double-click and OPEN the email (not the
preferred choice) and sometimes the icon in the systray will disappear and
sometimes it won't. I have it set to hide when inactive from the taskbar
properties (or show) and in Outlook Tools>Opions>E-mail Options>Advanced
E-mail Options>Show and envelope in the notification area. Well, YES, I want
it to show NEW mail, but go away when the mail is read. I will have to send
myself a new piece of mail and open it to make it go away because SOMETIMES
it goes away, and SOMETIMES it stays put. This feels buggy to me. Does it
depend on the settings of Tools>Opions>Other>Reading Pane and marking the
item as read? What would be the ideal settings to make the envelope go way
when an email is read...because now it's set to "Mark item as read when
selection changes". Thanks!

It will go away when an items gets changes from Unread to Read. Personally I
have all the automatic options turned off and mails will be marked as read
when I press CTRL+ENTER to mark a message as read. I've never seen this fail
in terms of removing the envelope from the Notification Area.
