I have been using Entourage with my MSN account for a couple of years
with no problem. All of a sudden I am no longer able send using
Entourage. The massage is:

HTTP error. The request cannot be fulfilled.

Error: 1412

This is the only explaination. Has anyone else encountered this
problem?

Have a look at The Entourage Help Page for this specific error number
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/error/page.html#error1412>.

Recent activity here indicates that many Entourage X and Hotmail users
are affected by a security patch applied to Microsoft's servers. You may
be able to work around your problem by applying this unofficial fix for
Daylight Saving Time found here
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/articles/unofficial_dst_workaround.html>.

If this doesn't resolve your problem and you are using Entourage X then
your next option is to update to Office 2004, which is a newer and
supported version of Entourage.

Since you're using Google Groups to post you can use its search feature
to locate additional information within this forum.

Hope this helps! bill

Thanks for the suggestions. It did not work and I see that MANY are
encountering the same issue. I tried to get Mac Mail configured but
it does not work. I assume that it is because I am msn.com and not
hotmail.com. Not sure though. I dowloaded the httpmail plug-in. So
far I have not had any luck with Mac Mail either. I am hesitant to
buy Office 2004 since 2007 or 8? is soon to be released. So I am
between a rock and a hard place here. It is quite frustrating
really. Any other suggestions?

* Use your web browser.

* Is it possible to forward your Hotmail to your regular ISP email account?
This way you can maintain your Hotmail email until you can upgrade.

Hi Ed!

Diane's given you some options, which may be your only solution for now.
But I'm curious about your setup. You've been using Entourage X with an
MSN Internet access account and not the premium Hotmail service? (This
may not make any difference since I really expect both to be essentially
the same servers.)

Does any non-Microsoft email client, Mac or Windows, work with MSN
besides its own provided software?

From what I remember, the httpmail plug-in you're referring to only
acted as an interface between the Hotmail servers and email applications
but Microsoft began blocking this type of direct access to all free
accounts a few years ago. This was done to limit spammers who were
abusing Outlook and free hotmail accounts.

Hi William,

I have a MSN Premium account that I purchase via Qwest. I have both
PC and Mac and the PC applications work fine. But my PC is older than
the Dead Sea Scrolls and wired to the wall. I love using the Mac as
it is wireless and far more intuitive for the apps I use. So I
contacted the Tech Support folks at Qwest and they told me to use
Entourage and helped me set it up. Since I already had Office X it
was a no brainer. I would love to be able to configure Mac Mail since
it works best with the machine. I am now either going to change ISPs
or buy Office 2008 but in the meantime, it seems I am SOL. If you
have any tips for getting Mac Mail running I am all ears.

I don't have an account to test, but I received feedback today from an
Entourage X user that applying the DST Workaround fixed his Hotmail
problems.

And if this doesn't work for you, I remembered one of the other MVPs,
Corentin Cras-Meneur, use to always espouse using Postfix as a means of
sending mail when you're unable to use your preferred SMTP server.
You're still able to receive but not send. Correct?

Does this work? <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/exchange/postfix.html>
