1412 Error for Hotmail in Entourage???

B

Blake Levin

I have used Entourage with my Hotmail account for nearly 3 years and today I
got the following error for the first time:

"HTTP error. The request cannot be fulfilled.

Error 1412"

Has anyone else experienced this today? I found a user on macoshints forum
that had the same problem.

Does anyone know what causes it? I left a support email with Hotmail, but it
has gone unanswered.

The Entourage page has the following explanation... I have done none of
these:

1412 Error: Mail could not be sent using the account "Hotmail." Explanation:
HTTP error. The request cannot be fulfilled Error: 1412

Hotmail has these rules:

Max 50 emails at a time
Max 100 mails in a 24 hour period

Thanks,
Blake

Monday the problem began. Please let me know if anyone finds out what
the issue is.

I'm having the same problem as of 4/1/07 late night PST on both my
laptop and desktop. Here's what MSN online support told me...

"David, based on the information you have given, and after rechecking
all the investigations made on your issue, I have determined that the
Microsoft Entourage team can provide the next best solution to your
concern. However, if you can still send e-mail messages using your web
browser, I suggest that you access first your account there while
waiting for the response from Microsoft Entourage team."

I also downloaded the latest release to Office v10.1.9 to no releif.

I'l keep searching for a solution & if I find anything, I'll post.

I tried reupdating office to V. 10.1.9
I even REupdated my OSX.......NADA
I even tried setting up a completely new user for my mac, started
entourage and created my account.. AND BAM.. still can't send any
emails.
what has me freaked out is reading what you guys posted.. cause The
same thing happened to me.
SUNDAY.. no problem...Monday morning.. REFUSED TO WORK. Actually
happened EARLY monday after midnight sunday.
i'm wondering if there was any changes made to hotmail/MSN that
night? Just the fact it was time sensitive when it all happens freaks
me out. I ran Norton Antivirus.. but nothing came up.

Let me know what you guys find out.. I guess until then.. We are in
this Together!!! The 1412 Error club

Yes, I have been struggling with exactly the same problem. Even utilizing
Disk Utility does not reset the error. Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you, Sharon

Just got a very thoughtful email from MSN online support, a response
to my response to the note they sent to me (in response to my online
tech support request) posted earlier. This note came with instructions
on how to set up a new account in Entourage X. I tried re-setting up
Hotmail, and no change. 1412.

I wrote back, providing a link to this forum, mentioned Diane
Ross' (Microsoft Mac MVP) post above, and asked that they keep in
touch with any new ideas or updates.

I am having the same exact problem as many of you... and it began at
the same time! I have attributed the problem to Virex -- my free
trial expired Sunday at midnight. As a result, my computer froze and
all sorts of problems began. For example, when I opened Entourage, I
received a message telling me I needed to rebuild my database. I
ignored it and ever since, I have been unble to send e-mail. I have
since rebuilt my database, but that did not solve the problem.

PLEASE let me know if anyone finally receives a solution to this
problem,
Thank you very much.

I have the same issue. I also left sent an email to MSN, and I contacted
microsoft tech support, and they said it's a known problem, but that nothing
is being done...

I guess we have to keep sending emails until they get the point. I don't
know.

I could have posted this exact same message! Suddenly Entourage can't send
messages out via Hotmail Error 1412 (shouldn't apply). Incoming messages
remain okay.
Any expert advice from the Tech Ghods?

One thing I will say for MSN Hotmail Technical Support. They do
respond and with such kind sincerity! No joke. I got a response to my
response to my ... noting that they have "already escalated this
concern to our product development team for further investigation."
And then, "Please be assured that I will take the responsibility to
make sure that this issue will be given priority."

Very cool.

And then a suggestion.. "In the meantime, you may also contact a
Microsoft support professional that specializes in Microsoft Entourage
for further information about this problem. They have the in-depth
knowledge and expertise to fully address the Error 1412 you are
getting when sending e-mail using Microsoft Entourage X. Please
contact them at:

https://support.microsoft.com/common/survey.aspx?scid=sw;en;1214&showpage=1

Upon visiting the link, please fill out all the fields required and
then click the "Submit" button. This will allow you to send a support
request to their department and a support representative will be
responding to your message within 24 hours."

Fingers crossed.

Here is the info I received from Hotmail support.

We traced the issue back to a security-related change on the Hotmail
servers, which unfortunately affects all Hotmail customers and is too
critical to revert.

Entourage X users who do not upgrade to Entourage 2004 can try the following
workarounds:
Receiving Mail: Move any messages in the Outbox to Drafts. Message retrieval
works in some cases if no messages need to be sent.
Sending Mail: Send messages via a non-Hotmail account.

Sorry I don't have better news.

I can't remember the error number, but I used to get an error every time
I connected to my Hotmail account to retreive e-mail. I also got an
error when I connected to send.

But when I re-connect (sometimes a couple of times) everything worked.
This went on for about 6 months but has now stopped and the account
works normally. That's why I cannot confirm that it was the same error
message I got.

I hope this helps.

Dear Diane,

Thank you for your suggestions.
With a fair amount of fiddling around I have managed to configure Entourage
to send via my SBC Yahoo account ('free' with my DSL connection), whilst
maintaining my hotmail email address.

It is however completely ridiculous that Microsoft Entourage can not
interact properly with Microsoft Hotmail !!! I can't believe that such a
fundamental problem slipped through Microsoft's much vaunted test process.
Ridiculous too that I have to search a newsgroup to find the information -
where's the courtesy email from Microsoft telling users that they have been
crippled by a server 'upgrade' ?? What's the average non-technical user
supposed to do?
Telling us all to go out and buy an upgrade to latest version of Office is
outrageous. Microsoft should be providing a simple patch fix (free download)
for this problem. It is exactly this sort of corporate incompetence /
arrogance (your choice) which will drive us all to open source application
solutions.

Sincerely, but with great frustration and exasperation,
Adrian Land

I understand that on April Fools' Day, Microsoft implemented a
security-related change to HotMail servers. While not intending to, it
inadvertently disabled Office X Entourage for users with HotMail accounts.

Now I learn this mistake is not planned to be corrected, forcing Office X
license holders and HotMail Plus subscribers to upgrade to Office 2004 in
order to retain their HotMail/Entourage connection.

This is an outrage! It is a perfect example of the callous disregard for
Macintosh customers that justly results in Microsoft's poor reputation. My
sympathy to all the users who'll never know what happened and will never
receive an apology.

This technical mediocrity is why we are still confined to planet Earth.

Interestingly enough, it turns out that for the same reason Hotmail is now
also inaccessible from IE on Mac OS 9, so Entourage X users are definitely
not being singled out here.

My guess is it had something to do with Daylight Savings Time. Blame the
government for all the problems resulting from the new DST!
