Failure to Install Office Ultimate 2007

I had posted this some time back but had problems getting back to get the
answer(s), if any. I have a CD of a download of the Ultimate Steal-MS Office
Ultimate 2007. When I attempt to install it, I get the message "The
installation package failed." No codes, explanation, whatever. I'm running
Dell Dimension E521 w/Vista Premium w/SP1 (32-bit). I have 1GB Ram, 300GB
HHD (288 free), AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 33600+ w/1.9GHz clock speed. I
have had this disc the better part of a year and have never been able to
install it. I can't get any help from MS because I haven't yet installed it
so it can be registered.

Was this disk supplied by MS, or was it one you created from a download
file?
If the latter then I suspect either the download file was corrupt, or
whatever means you used to create/burn this cd was faulty

This was a disc burned with the files downloaded from the MS Store via
store.digitalriver.com. There were 2 purchases for 2 computers and the other
one loaded/installed w/o problem.

If this disk successfully installed on one PC, but fails on the other, then
try booting the PC into Safe Mode.
I believe some Dell's are supplied with certain cd/dvd utilities which run
on start-up & could be causing a conflict.
(Presumably other cd's install successfully on this PC?)

DL-

Thanks for the reply-I'm sorry about being so slow getting back to you.

By booting into safe mode can I install the CD w/o any problems or
shortcomings with the Office suite? And, yes, other cd's have been used
successfully in the past to install programs into Vista.

I'll try that, probably this weekend, and get back to you in either case,
install or failure.

DL, hello again

Well, I tried the safe mode installation method with no results better than
I had before. I got in safe mode, opened the cd, double-clicked (dc'd) on
the 1st application file, X12-30307 (258,648KB) and got "The installation of
this package failed." within 2-3 seconds! I then dc'd on the second
application file, X13-40150 (394,873KB), and it started extracting files.
Then it went into the "MS Office Professional 2007 CD Setup Wizard". In a
few seconds I was presented with the "Maintenance Options" screen. This
screen contained three options. The first two, "ADD-new MS Office 2007 CD2
Components" and "REINSTALL-or repair MS Office 2007 CD2", were greyed out and
unable to be selected. The third option, "REMOVE-MS Office Professional CD2
from this computer." was the only option I could select. I have already
uninstalled any and all MS Office products from my computer prior to trying
to install the Ultimate 2007 but I did it again with this option. When it
finished nothing happened for some time (about 1.5 hours) and I dc'd
X13-40150 again and got the same options/choices with the same results. The
three listed selections to remove were: 1) MS Office Accounting 2007, 2)
Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 , and 3) MS SQL Server 2005 Express
MSSMLBIZ).

It seems almost like the Windows installation files are lost or corrupt but
I don't know how to replace them.

With this being a year trying to get it installed I just want my money back
since no one can get the danged thing to install, but I know THAT will NOT be
an option. HELP, DL!

Oh, DL, I'm sorry that I forgot to include the answers to your questions.
Yes, other CD's have been installed on this computer but none recently. And
the other PC that had this installed was from another CD-there were two
purchases of the same program offer for two different PC's, That way I got
two key codes and didn't have to go through the hassle of buying a second key
code.

If you got a maintenance mode window on running setup that would tend to
indicate at least some files were installed to the hd.
Unfortunately (?) I've ever used the actual Office cd, and not the download
files. It would appear to me that either the actual download files are
corrupt, or that the burn operation corrupted the ones on cd.
I think the only thing I can offer, assuming you dont have the actual
download files stored on a PC, is that you try logging on to Digital River
to see if the option to purchase the actual Office disk is still available.

DL, I have contacted DigitalRiver but do not hold out much hope for
afirmative reply. Is the a way to get this directly from Mocrosoft that you
know of? I can supply information on proof of purchase.

Thanks, DL, for the link. I have already browsed the site but cannot contact
them til later in the day (it's only about 12:45 AM there right now) to see
if that will be my salvation in this matter.

DL, great news, finally. I am able to get the disc version of Office
Ultimate from Micrcrosoft. The only time you should hear from now me is if I
have any more problems. Thank you for your help. That link has been saved
for future use and sharing.

Pam

Hi there
Sorry if this is a dumb question but here goes. I've got the same problems
as those previously mentioned but I did take up the option of the dvd and
it's on the way. My question is do I need to completely uninstall all of
office 2000 before installing office 2007 ultimate?
Thanks so much for your help.

It would be advisable to uninstall office2k and reboot before installing
from cd. (ensure win critical updates have been done)
Also if using Outlook, create a new Profile with new data file

Hi there, thanks for your help. I actually kept reading last night to try
again to understand why the exe file kept failing. Eventually I did one
thing I read and all was fixed. All I needed to do was download a freebie
download manager program and downloaded the office 2007 ultimate exe file
from digital river. It downloaded quite quickly and successfully
installed!!! Came across the problem of NOT creating a new Profile in
Outlook but fixed that after trying a couple of different suggestions ... ie.
creating a new profile and deleting the default.
Thanks again

Pam, where did you get the download manager? The exact same thing is
happening to me and it is very aggravating. Please help!
