Find Record command button

I have a form that has a subform in it also. On the main form I have a
command button that does a search by member name or id number. On the
subform I have a command button that does a search by the member's case
number. The button works when I use it from the subform but when I get to my
main form and try to search by the case number it does not work. Any ideas
why this would happen and what I can do.
