FP2003 install problem - ordinal 4227?

I was having major issues with my PC and had to do a system recovery, which
meant all my software needed to be re-installed. Since doing a re-install of
FP, I can't get it to open up. I get the following error:

Frontpg.exe - Ordinal Not Found
The ordinal 4227 could not be located in the dynamic link library fpcutl.dll.

I have done a repair and re-install twice, and still getting the same
message. Any ideas?

Browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11
and right click on FPCUTL.DLL and select properties.
What is the version number of the file?
For FP 2003 it should be 11.0.6551.0

I just checked with Dependency Walker and ordinal 4227 is definitely there.

Thanks Steve. I just checked and the version number is 11.0.5516.0 How do I
correct that, so that FP will work?

Insert the CD, kill the install, and browse the CD for FPCUTL.DLL.

Check the version, if it's correct, replace the one in
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11

I checked the CD, but there are very few files on it, and no fpcutl.dll file
at all. Are there any other options?

Uninstall FP 2003.
When done browse here:
C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9

If the exact folder exists, and I mean "Exact" folder, delete it. It is the back up files for the FP 2003
install.
If it is the correct one, it will contain a bunch of cabinet files but most importantly a file named FP11.MSI


Then browse to C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch and delete the entire contents of the prefetch folder.

Also after you've uninstall FP 2003 browse to: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11
and if FPCUTL.DLL still exist, rename it.

Reboot the machine.
Make sure there are no scratches on the install CD.
Try the install again.

I don't have an MSOCache folder - do I just skip over that step?

Yes, just skip that step.

Just to make sure though, copy and paste this into Start > Run and click OK:

C:\MSOCache

Also, you might want to check MSFT updates for the latest office 2003 update and install it,
it "might" just solve the problem.

Steve,

Thanks you so VERY much. I followed your instructions, and everything is
working perfectly now. It's been a tough week, trying to restore everything
back to "normal" after my PC decided to commit suicide. Thankfully I'm just
about finished, and with your help I have one less "worry" on my list of
things to fix.
