Getting updates via xml files; securing the data

I will probably be writing a system that inhales updates via xml files.
What I was thinking of was generating an xml file with Access XP
(Application.ExportXML acExportQuery etc) on a server that contains the
new data; then attaching the xml file to an email which goes to the 2nd
server; and then importing the xml file. All of this I think is pretty
straightforward, but I also need to encrypt or otherwise secure the data
in the xml file. Can anyone give me a quick suggestion or two as to how
I could accomplish this?
