How do you delete that "line" that word makes when you type -------

Word has a nice feature, when you type a few dashes, or equal signs,
then hit return, it makes a clean line all the way across the page.

Unfortunately I can't control that line, esp. delete it. I select
several lines above and below it, hit delete, and it deletes the
blanks above and below but the line is still there !!

Yike, how do I delete it?
