How to make black to white gradual shading in MS Word?

I'm making a newspaper ad. It needs black on top, with white text. Then
lighter and lighter gray down, to white on the bottom with black text.
How does one do this with Word?

You can create a Text Box with a black-to-white gradient fill but there is
no capability to apply a similar effect to text. You'd need to select each
line & apply the appropriate solid shade of gray to each.

This is something best done in a decent Desktop Publishing program or a
graphic design program such as Adobe Illustrator.

Depending on how much text there is, it's possible to accomplish the desired
aim using WordArt. Use the Fill Effects - Gradient tab, with Color 1 set to
black and Color 2 set to white, using a Horizontal Shading Style.
