Importing Former 2008 Identity

Processor: intel
Email Client: pop

We performed an Mac update and our Entourage 2008 identity (account settings, emails, contacts) was "lost". The computer's user set up Entourage again using the same email account settings, and I think creating a second Main Identity, which I believe I found in user/documents/MUD/ Office 2008 identities/Main Identity. I think I have found the "original" Main Identity after reading some helpful posts here, however, I have not been able to merge the two. Importing only allows archived folder.rge to be imported, the primary identity only appears as the folder, then within it the database, mailing lists ad such.

I have archived the most recent identity in case I lose it somehow, but any further instruction would be greatly appreciated.

First, when Entourage starts up with a new blank Identity, it is usually
user error. Entourage expects your Identity to be in the Microsoft User Data
folder in Documents. If you move it, it starts with a new blank one.

Main is the default name. You can name your Identity anything you want. If
you drag a main Identity into the folder it will overwrite the current one.
Typical Mac behavior. Always rename so you don't overwrite. You can do this
in the Finder.

I would merge the new one that probably has very little info into the older
one. Less data would be quicker.

To Merge the two Identities:

1. export as Entourage archive (.rge) then import into new Identity. See
movie: <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/video/Import_rge/index.html>

2. export as MBOX files and tab delimited files then import into new
Identity.

For details and help see:
How to manually move your data:

I have archived the most recent identity in case I lose it somehow, but any
further instruction would be greatly appreciated.

Good step! Always make a backup when working with important data.

Thanks, I guess the thing i still don't understand is how do I export the primary identity because I can't open it to begin with. The secondary identity is the one I have a .rge file of and that is the identity that appears when I open Entourage. I hope that makes sense...

It seems you have a backup only of the Identity that will open. Unless you
have a backup copy, that Identity is toast.
