ldap error - 17766

I have outlook 2003 configured with the following info and it works

server: ldap.xyz

port 389

no SSL needed

Search base is:

ou=employees,0=imc

I set this up in entourage and when I do a search for an contact I get
'An Unknown Error has occured (-17766)

I looked it up and tried a few things but still get this error.

Anyone have any insight on why it works in Outlook 2003 but not
Entourage?

Search base is:

ou=employees,0=imc

Hmmm... That doesn't look like a normal search base to me. Usually it's
something like:

dc=mydomain,dc=com

I tried that as well and get a different error, -17768.

The search base I mentioned earlier works in Outlook 2003 on Windows
XP, why wouldn't it work in Entourage?

Not sure - I'm no LDAP expert. You might try is:

1. Quit all applications that communicate over the network but Entourage.

2. Open a terminal window, and enter this command:

sudo tcpdump -s 0 -A -i en0 port 389

3. Now make Entourage connect to the LDAP server and watch the output
in the terminal window.

You should see a dump of the communication between Entourage and the
LDAP server, including the search base. You will probably see the exact
error message sequence being returned by the LDAP server. You can
probably give that to your network administrator and have him tell you
what you need to change.

(To stop tcpdump, type Control-C on your keyboard.)

How embarassing! I was using:

ou=employees,0=imc

but it was ou=employees,o=imc

I misread the zero for the letter 'o'

Everything is working ok now !

Thanks for your prompt response.
