Linked tables between FE and BE

Is there a way to manually enter a path for linked tables between a
database front end and back end? My dilemma is that the database
splitter/linked table manager paths defaulted to the "E" drive of our
network. However, since the network drive in which the BE exists is a
manually mapped drive, not everyone's drive designation is "E". I'd
like to change those paths to read "\\WDC.....\Customer Service
\....".

If you're using the Linked Table Manager to link, navigate to the BE through
the Network Neighborhood (or My Network Places, or whatever it's called
these days)
