Login failed, Project could not connect to the server

Hey

At work we use Project 2007 Professional and Project Server 2007 and PWA
2007...

When I open Project I get a message saying this "Login failed, project could
not connect to the server"

I can login to PWA from IE, the URL I specified in "Project Server Url" in
"Account Properties" is the same url as I use login to PWA from IE

I'm a member these Project security grouops: administrators and project
leader

We use AD as authentication

Any suggestions??

Make sure the groups/categories which your a member of has the allow logon
from Project Professional permission.

By default the admin scy group has this, so check it's not been changed.

Thanks, it works for me now, I'm able to open Project Professional, and it
automatically connect with project server etc

But another user here still get the "Login failed, Project could not connect
to the server"
We are members of the same security groups. And on this person's profile
I've allowed everyting in "global permissions". In my profile I have only
"allow logon from Project Professional permission" and I'm allowed to
connect with project server. He has this setting too, and all the other
settings set to allowed.

We are both members of the Administrator and Project leader groups

Strange that it works for me, and not for him

When I created these users, I was still (I'm still learning) learning how
these security groups works in Porject. Maybe I created this other person by
using a security template and later added him to the Administrator and
Project leader groups. While for my user I just created and assigned to the
Administrator and Project leader template - without using a security
template....

any suggestions?

Is your colleague a member of another group which has this permission denied ?

Does entering his account details in the connection dialogue make any
difference to the problem ?

Does entering his account details in the connection dialogue make any
difference to the problem ?

I've tryed it, and he still get the same error!

Could this be caused by the local cache on his computer... Like for example
should I clear the Inernet cache on that computer and then try?.... I ask
because I'm not sure about the relations between Project Professional 2007
and IE cache...

I've seen the XP credential manager cache usernames/password in the past. I
don't believe IE cache does it ?

Hello Jeff,

Did you add the Project Server URL to the list of trusted sites and did you
set the security for trusted sites to Low?

Was this ever resolved? I am running into the same error. I have a user who
gets the error message, but it seems to work fine. As an added piece of
information, the error is not machine specific. We had him log into another
workstation that runs Project 2007 and he gets the same answer.
Thanks
Paul
