messaging interface unknown error, suggested fixes and SCANPST no

Greetings all --

I'm getting the "the messaging interface has returned an unknown error" when
I try to delete messages from Outlook 2003. This is for my home PC, so the
folder is not on a Exchange server.

File size is well below the 2gig ceiling (about 600 meg). I can delete some
files, but not others, with the non-deletable files being about a month old
or older. The files that trigger the error when I try to delete them also
give this error if I try to drag them to an archive folder, as was suggested
in an older thread.

SCANPST sometimes shows errors in my OUTLOOK.PST file, and sometimes not. I
still get the error even if SCANPST detects no errors.

I have deleted or archived most of what I can, and then compacted my PST
file. Still have the problem.

At the same time that this issue appeared, Outlook stopped saving sent
messages to the Sent folder. Instead, they stay in my Outbox folder, even
the email did send successfully.

Any suggestions? I wouldn't be adverse to creating a new OUTLOOK.PST and
renaming the existing one so that it becomes an archive file is that is
possible and there's a procedure I can follow.

TIA....

Mark

This is the same exact thing I am having trouble with, except I have Outlook
2007 SP1.
Have run scanpst.exe, ckdsk with no improvement.
There are two users on the computer. The other user is not having the issue.
