I am having trouble mapping attributes in portfolio server by using project
server gateway. I have configure the project server gateway using the
followings:

Project service: http://servername:portnumber/sharedservices1 and I also
used http://servername:portnumber/sharedservices1/PSI.

Project Server: http://servername/pwa.
custom resource mapping: RBS

I am using windows authentication for user credentials.

Problem I am having is when i try to use attribute mapping it gives me an
error saying: request failed with 404 error file not found.

I configured ShareServices as per the deployment manual. What is it that I
am doing wrong.

Please help as I am stuck to this error for last couple of days.

TIA.

If by account you mean application pool than they are both running under
admin privilages.

There are two login screens that I had to go through when I open portfolio
server, first one is asking me for account credentials. I dont have this
account accessing my project server, it only exist in portfolio sever.

Second login screen ask me for user credential and i already given that
account an admin privilages in both servers and I also added it in MOSS
central admin shared services as per the deployment document.

This thing driving me nuts :). what is it that I am not following or doing
correctly?

Or if you can tell me bit more step by step, i will really appriciate it.

Thanks

To keep things simple (unless you have reasons not to), I always have the
same domain account running both apps and services. I ensure that this same
account is configured as an administrator is both applications. When I log
into the apps with the admin account, I don't get prompted for a password. I
ensure that anon user access is not allowed on either of the IIS sites.
Using this approach, I've never any issues sync'ing attributes.

I'll find the required permissions tonight when I have access to
documentation, as I'm currently on the road.

Are you using windows auth. have you seen this paragraph in the deployment
guide?

Before individual Windows authenticated users can use the Project Server
Gateway, they must first click the Preferences link in the Office Project
Portfolio Server 2007 Web interface. This will initialize the user’s
connection to Office Project Server 2007.

I'd suggest retracing the steps from Page 54 of the deployment guide, as
I've just following these on a clean install without any issues.

first of all, I really appriciate your help Paul.

I did and I will try again.
here is my scenario...
I am logged on as administrator on the machine.
When i installed portfolio server and ran it the first time, it ran under a
"demo" account name.
I created a new account "admin" and gave him all the permissions, then a i
created a "ppsadmin" user under this account and also gave him all the
rights.

I logged off the server and ran again but it logged me on again as demo
account so i logged in as a different user and used admin and ppsadmin to
logged in the server. Now it said ppsadmin does not have permission to access
project server. I then created a ppsadmin account in project server and gave
him an admin right.

At this point i started getting "404" error.
I also added this user in the sql databases of portfolio to see if its sql
related but no luck there either.

what is it that i am missing or doing wrong?

Thanks

Paul one other thing that I would like to tell you that when i am configuring
project server gateway i dont have the following:

Resource Type Custom Field: I am writing "RBS" here. does thia mean I need
to configure something in project server first?
Default Mapping Template: I dont have any default mapping template.

C

Cloudno9

by following step by step instruction in the deployment guide page 54 I am
ending up with this error when i try to add attribute mapping template.

Cannot validate user 'PPSAdmin' for project server 'FCT Test Project Server
2007'.

read my previous response for ppsadmin user rights.

thanks

\Question I have now is When i go to Attribute mapping template section of
the project gateway and I select my project server from the drop down list, I
only see 2 drop downs appeared under Project attributes section" forevast end
date and forcast start date. whereas i the deployment guide they are showing
lots of fields appearing under this section (page 57 figure 3.1).

What do i missed now?
