No Import and Export Option

For some reason the Import and Export option no longer shows up when I do the
drop down under File. I've used it many times in the past to export contacts
and .pst file and now it simply isn't there.

I've restarted both the program and the computer to see if it appears again
and it doesn't. Now what?

I have Outlook 2007 and it had BCM, but I did not like the BCM so sometime
ago I had followed steps published by MS to disable that feature so I have
not been "using" it per se. After disabling BCM I noted that the BCM feature
no longer showed up on the toolbar.

Thanks for the suggestion Diane, but this did not change anything so I went
ahead and went to the customize and dragged the Import and Export function to
the toolbar so I could at least access the capability.

Unless you are exporting to a third-party application such as Access or
Excel - then DON'T use this function to just make a backup or transfer your
Outlook data from one machine to another.
Why Not?
Firstly the export function runs while Outlook is still open, and if you've
never had a corrupted pst file from this then you have been VERY lucky.
Secondly, the import function should not be used to import native Outlook
data.

Importing an entire PST may well corrupt your profile and may create a ghost
PST that you can't close. Importing PST's will lose:
1. Custom Forms
2. Custom Views
3. Connections between contacts and activities
4. Received dates on mail
5. Birthdays and anniversaries in calendar
6. Journal connections
7. Distribution Lists

Opening a PST file will preserve all of these. That is why we do not advise
people to import a native file into Outlook.
