Office 2003 still on Add/Remove list after upgrade to Office 2007

Dan

I'm running XP Home (SP2). I previously had Office 2003 Pro installed. I
upgraded to Office 2007 Pro (SP1) on 12/22/2007. No problems then or now,
except I just noticed that both Office 2007 Pro and Office 2007 Pro are
listed in the "Add or Remove Programs" list. Notice the installation dates
of Office 2003 updates that appear under the Office 2003 heading:

Microsoft Office Professional 2007 Size 548.00 MB
2007 MS Office Suite Service Pack 1 (SP1)
Update for Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (kb944965)
Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 Size 300.00 MB
Update for Office 2003 (KB907417) Installed on 12/22/2005
Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3): MAINSP3 Installed On 11/10/2007
Update for Outlook 2003 (KB943649): OLKINTL Installed On 12/11/2007
Security Update for Office 2003 (KB946254): MSPUB Installed On
2/12/2008
... *some more updates are listed as installed on 2/12/2008, AFTER the
Office 2007 installation date

Q. Why does my system still retrieve updates for Office 2003 AFTER I've
installed Office 2007?

Q. Is it safe and/or wise for me to formally UNINSTALL Office Pro 2003
entry and sub-entries using the REMOVE option under "Add or Remove Programs"?

The "Microsoft Office" folder and its sub-folders (under "C:\Program Files"
all show a creation date of 12/22/2007 so it doesn't appear that there are
any remaining Office 2003 files on the system, but are there possibly
registry leftovers?

Everything seems to run okay but I wonder if my computer would be more
efficient if I got rid of the Office 2003 stuff. I wouldn't mind recovering
some of my hard drive space if possible.
