patch package problem

I have encountered the "patch package could not be opened..." when running MS
Office applications, after installing a new boot disk. I used Maxblast to
install the new disk and copy files from the old disk to the new. XP seems
to work fine as do other apps. I tried the fix in Article ID : 295823,
however when I run msicuu2.exe, I get a script error. thanks for any help.

hmmm...

The windows installer cleanup utility (msicuu2.exe) doesn't run.. bummer.

Can you remove office through add/remove programs or do you receive the same
error?

Bummer

So we can't uninstall and we can’t get windows installer cleanup to run..

Then we are looking at a manual uninstall.

Here are the instructions..

Delete these reg keys if they exist..

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\]
[HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Office\]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software\Microsoft\OfficeCustomizeWizard]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\OfficeCustomizeWizard]
[HKEY_USERS \.Default\Software\Microsoft\ OfficeCustomizeWizard]
[HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Office]

Try to reinstall.

I suppose this is a double bummer...I removed the registry entries and
attempted to reinstall, but I get the same error message. Rebooted...same
thing. I noted that in control panel, add/remove programs, MS Office is
still listed. I tried remove, repair...but got the same error message.

OK Prairiedog,

We are going to get you fixed... this might just take a couple tries.

I would expect the app to still show in add/remove because that is
controlled by a reg key that I didnt have you remove (shouldnt have to to
remove office)

Next steps.

In your office 2003 install disc do you have a pro11.msi or pro11n.msi?
Whichever you have use the following command to install office. Switch the
pro11 in my command with the version you see on your disc.

msiexec /i (full path to pro11.msi) /L*V c:\testing.txt

example= msiexec /i d:\pro11.msi /L*v c:\testing.txt

After it fails you will have a log file in the c:\ named testing.txt

Please copy and paste the contents of the log file here so I can evaluate
what is causing the failure.

Thanks

I tried to run the cleanup utility and the machine will not let me run it. I
get the script error too. Windows Installer runs every time I open any
Office product and I cannot uninstall Office 2002 or 2003
