Preserving in-document hyperlinks inAutomatic tables of contents (TOC)

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I've used a template from my old office (that has been used on PCs and Macs) for a press clips document, and it includes a Table of Contents that is based on the Heading presets. The table works perfectly when I update it, but when I create hyperlinks for each of the lines to link to anchor headings throughout the document, I can't update the TOC again without losing all the hyperlinks. This document is something I need to edit every day, so finding a way to make the hyperlinks to the anchor headings permanent would be really helpful! Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi EJD,

You don't need to format the TOC entries as hyperlinks - at most all you need to do is to make sure the TOC field has the hyperlink
switch (\h). Even without the hyperlink switch, clicking (or shift-clicking) on your TOC page numbers should take you to the
corresponding heading in the document. Although the TOC entries won't look like hyperlinks after adding the hyperlink switch, they
will function like them (except for the colour change). To make sure the hyperlink switch is present, select the TOC and press
Shift-F9. You should see something like {TOC \o 1-3 \h }. If the '\h' is missing, simply add it.

Sorry: Not in Mac Word!

The Table of Contents Generator in Mac Word cannot generate hyperlinks in
the TOC. Any time you regenerate the TOC on a Mac, the hyperlinks will be
removed (because the entire text of the TOC is regenerated).

I know of no current plans to change this function.

If you click the page number, you will jump to the correct page: the old
cross-reference target is still there.

Sorry
