Product Key and Purchased New Office

I too had the problem with not having a valid product key. I restored an earlier version of Microsoft Office (12.1.9) from Time Machine and purchased a new Office 2008. How do I enter the new product key? I'm afraid of inserting the new disk for fear of losing previous emails, settings, etc. Should I download the SP2 update again, delete the "plist" files recommended and then when setup assistant asks for the product key, enter the new product key from the one I just purchased? Does this newly purchased product key somehow have to be registered before it is valid or does it become valid and activated just by purchasing it?

You can uninstall Office using the uninstaller and reinstall the new
one. The e-mails, etc are not touched.

Actually, there is a way to de-serialize and re-serialize, but I do NOT
like Time Machine restores for Office (since there are bits and pieces
installed in other locations than /Applications) so I would still
uninstall and reinstall.

Thanks so much for your advice. Is there a simple uninstall menu option or application? After uninstalled, then I go through the installation of the new program and walk through the setup assistant? None of my emails, documents, settings are affected?

Note you'll see on the page the files that are not removed. You'll have to
remove those manually.

Nothing in the Microsoft User Data folder is supposed to be touched with the
install, BUT somethings things go wrong and files can disappear. I suggest
that you zip (compress) your Main Identity folder or make a backup just in
case.
