Product Key Replacement

P

ParcaKnight

I need a new product key for a copy of Office 2007 Enterprise Edition
purchased through the Employee Purchase Program. The activation wizard,
which according to the article here:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HA012334341033.aspx

is supposed to offer the option to activate either on-line or over the
phone, does no such thing. If I select "activate" from the options screen in
(for example) Word 2007 I'm asked for a product key and that's it. There is
no option presented for telephone activation, and no way for me to get the
telephone number for the activation center. Where else can I find the number
I need to get the new key?

You don't need a new key. Why would you think you did? If you are attached
to the internet you should automatically be activated when you install the
software. To check open Word and click on the Office Orb then click on Word
Options and then Resources. You should now see Activate Microsoft Office and
an activate key. What happens when you click on Activate? If it says
already activated you have no problem. It it is not activated it should
either activate over the internet or give the telephone number.

Now, all help for Enterprise is supposed to come from either the company
through which you purchased the Home Use rights (your company) and you also
received a telephone number for support by Microsoft when you purchased the
single use license (one computer at a time) for Enterprise.

Most here are totally reluctant to provide assistance for Enterprise
versions here as there are many pirated versions on the internet.

Just curious - Enterprise Edition is only sold by volume licensing - why
are you not asking your company to help with your problem in the activation
process?

You quoted an URL for individual program activiation - activation for
volume licensing is handled differently, and you really need to get help
from the company that made the volume license purchase.

Because I don't have the contact information for our rep readily available.
Tracking him down was a pain the first time, and I didn't relish the thought
of having to spend most of tomorrow doing it again.

I don't mean to pick, you're giving valid advice and I appreciate you taking
the time to do it. But there's absolutely nothing in the help which gives
any indication that this is the right course. All I did was follow the
program's own recommendations for solving the issue and got nowhere. I did
finally find a page listing the Product Activation Center numbers on
Microsoft's EPP site; now I have a new key, bought and paid for, soon to be
locked away somewhere safe from my horrible memory. If the help file had
pointed me that way to begin with, life would have been so much simpler all
around.

It should, but it's not - as I said, there was no "either," only the option

Which I probably dropped in whatever black hole I lost the original license
key in. My fault, entirely, no question.

I appreciate that, and I wouldn't think of trying to pirate a key or ask
anyone here to help me do it. I was only trying to track down the proper
resource for getting a legitimate key, as the program help files were proving
anything but helpful. At any rate, the situation is resolved now, and I
appreciate you taking the time to try and help straighten me out.

The program's own recommendations (included in 2007 help) basically cover
anything but volume licensing and special programs such as Home User
Program (HUP) & Employee Purchase Program (EPP) -

even though the Office 2010 help does have a reference to volume licensing,
it's limited as well, and would not have been of use to you -

Quoting Office 2010 help -

"Activation Center numbers are not listed in this article, because there
are many numbers, and the correct number for you is based on several
factors. Microsoft software can be obtained under various licenses,
including individual retail licenses, original equipment manufacturer (OEM)
licenses, and volume licenses. Telephone numbers vary by product license
and country/region."

The 2007 help file does not even include that much information - so
referring to help for your particular need would not be covered.

your research - finding the Product Activation Center listing - and with
the proper sign in or proper company credentials finally gave you the
result you needed.

OK, well all this is fresh in your mind - I'd suggest - burn your office
suite to DVD (if you don't have a physical DVD already) and store your key
with it, and keep good track of it.

Many are crying today, because they can't find install disks or keys from
years ago! :-D

You need to go back to the original documentation you received with the
purchase to find out where and how to obtain a key for Enterprise version of
Office.
