Hi, does someone know can I get rid of the 'publishing layout view' bar in word please? (Who on earth is using rainbow coloured templates anyway???)
Many thanks, K

Not sure what you mean by " 'publishing layout view' bar" - there is nothing
by that name. Perhaps you're referring to the Elements Gallery containing
the buttons for Publication Templates, Quick Tables, Charts, etc. If so, the
answer is No, the Gallery is a permanent fixture. However, you can go into
Word> Preferences> Gallery, remove the check on "Open Elements Gallery when
application opens" in order to reduce the EG's height to display just the
buttons, but the buttons can't be hidden or removed.

As for who uses those features - well, you might be surprised :) I honestly
haven't seen any that I would describe as "rainbow", but even so the layouts
are exceptionally creative & professionally done. Most importantly, their
default content does not have to be retained - it can be replaced by the
user's graphics or deleted altogether just like the placeholder text. Used
properly the templates can save quite a bit of time & effort for those who
have a use for that mode in the first place - Publications.

I agree with you: I don't think ANY document professionals use those
things, they're the disgusting progeny of the Shock and Horror school of
graphics design :)

But Bob is correct: you can get into them and turn the volume way down, if
you can be bothered. If you had the time to spend, you could actually
produce a set that could be used in business.

The concept behind the Elements Gallery is actually very good: but the
execution currently is an assault on the eyeballs of the world! And the
templates are not built in such a way as to be useful in serious
documentation work, but that's a different issue.

Cheers
