Questions about audio recordings

S

Steve Silverwood

Got a couple of items I'm wondering about:

1) If you delete an item in OneNote which has a recording
associated with it, does the recording get deleted along
with the note, or do we wind up with disassociated
recordings floating around?

1a) Along the same lines as #1 but not related to recordings:
what about files that have been dragged-and-dropped into
OneNote? Not necessarily recordings, just any file. If
the note onto which the file was originally dropped gets
deleted, does the associated file get removed from the
OneNote notebook folder?

2) Is it possible to delete a recording associated with a note,
without deleting the note itself? If so, how do you know
which audio file is associated with which note? Does doing
so cause problems with the original note, or does it just
break the association?

Thanks in advance!

1 & 1a are the same answer - no, the associated file/recording doesn't get
deleted when the note does.

2. Yes, you can delete the recording without deleting the note. They are
just WMV files stored in the My Notebook folder under the appropriate
section. You may have to actually pay a few seconds of each WMV file to
find the right one if you're not sure which is which.

Delete the file; then check the note and make sure the recording icon is
deleted from there too to avoid confusion.

And you can delete a recording from within OneNote by using the "Delete
Recording" button on the Recording toolbar. That will delete all
recordings on the current page. OneNote handles the file operations behind
the scenes. The deletion is not undo-able.

Oooh, not a good thing. Does this not sound like a worthy suggestion
for correction in ON12, perhaps? Thanks for the answer, regardless.
I'll have to be conscious of this when housekeeping.

Thanks, good to know. Providing there's only one recording involved,
though, I think I like Erik's answer a little better. ;-)

Thanks. Providing there's only one recording per page, that sounds like
a clean way of handling things. I appreciate both replies -- thanks
again, guys!
