Re-install Office Pro 2003 - Installation Error

T

Running Windows XP Home Edition. My Anti-Virus software found 2 infected
files and quarantined them. I had to do a reinstall of XP.

Computer started confusing Office XP with Office 2003 - If I recall, when I
installed 2003 it asked to uninstall XP, so I did not do it separately. So
last week I looked and found that Office XP still had files on my computer,
so I "removed program files" and did a reinstall of Office 2003, just to be
on the safe side.

Everything seemed to go well. Now I am getting the following dialog box:

Installation Error
Setting product ID registry failed!

I can't do an uninstall because the computer is trying to install Windows XP
updates from the MS website and it can't complete the install for some reason.

Help!

Judy, sounds like you're running CA Anti-Virus. I've got 3 PCs here at the
moment, with similar problems. After over an hour on the phone to MS Support,
the software engineer worked out that it's the CA software at fault. You may
need to download the CA ISS uninstall tool to uninstall the security suite.
Get windoze working properly again, then re-install CA ISS/Anti-Virus.

It's working for me at the moment.

Regards and good luck.
